House Hunting

The house hunting continues. We went for a second visit to our top two houses at this point. We arrived with 4 (+2) others in tow. While the munchkins ran around we had another look around Wickersham. The multiple eyes really helped out and now Wickersham is off our list. It's small, which we knew, and has some other flaws we didn't notice beforehand. Some rough ceiling work, little to no room lights, and price/sqft. So, it was a good trip and a disappointing trip.

We then headed over to a house on Emmit. This house fared better than Wickersham. It's still a small house, but feels bigger. Chelsea is a bigger fan of it than I am. She loves the open living room and the garden tub and skylight in the bathroom. We both dislike the kitchen. So, while it fared better, it didn't come out unscathed.

So, we're down one option and not 100% sold on another. We just finished looking through a few more suggestions and searched for a few more. We'll hopefully go look at another round of 11 houses this Saturday. We may ask the family that's available to tag along if they want. We shall see.

So, while it was a slightly disappointing night, Chelsea and I appreciate all of the input. This is our first house, so I think we're sometimes shell shocked the first time we see a house. We're like, 'We can afford to buy this!?' and we may overlook some flaws initially. The second round and new eyes helps out a bunch.

We'll keep you informed as the search continues.

  1. Jonathan: I am so glad to see you blogging again and love getting the info on your house search. You will know the house when you see it. Don’t get discouraged and think of it as an adventure and have as much fun with it as you can. I am glad that all the other input is helpful too. Good luck. mom

  2. It’s okay to love it the first time. We definitely did. We even put an offer on the first one we loved. Lucky for us, they didn’t take our offer b/c when it came back around (after the accepted offer bailed), we went back for another look and did so with more open, more experienced eyes (only in the sense that we’d seen a lot more houses). We saw that the windows were screwed shut. The laundry facilities IN the TINY kitchen. The no room to grow size.

I felt terrible that we were all doom and gloom last night b/c it was a cute house. I feared it was our bias against having you three! move to Raleigh. I know you’ll find the perfect house (in Durham- can’t help it). It just may take a bit longer than you ready-to-nest parents would have liked.

PS- Glad to see you back. If this regular blogging trend continues, you may earn your way back into my blogroll. ;)

  3. We’ll be looking at another dozen or so houses this weekend. Should be fun. We’re looking around the area where Amy and Josh live. We’ll see what happens with this. We may give you guys a call to come see a house or two.
