It’s an illusion, Michael.
So, if you haven't heard already, we are owners of a brand new baby boy. We'll see how many miles we can put on this one. =) You've probably already read Chelsea's account, but here's a simplified timeline of my day:
1:15 A.M. - Wake up to a ungrateful stomach and proceed to vomit and poop out everything related to food in the last 24 hours.
1:30 A.M. - Go back to sleep.
2:30 A.M. - See 1:15 A.M.
2:45 A.M. - Go back to sleep.
4:15 A.M. - See 1:15 A.M.
5:00 A.M. - Attempt some more sleep, but alarm starts going off so that Chelsea can get ready for the day. Except the alarm is going off for no reason, because she has actually been up since about the 2:30 A.M. vomit session and is already buzzing around and pretty much ready to go.
6:30 A.M. - Vomit outside before getting family into the car.
7:30 A.M. - Drop Evelyn off with Brandi who will be watching her while we are in the hospital.
8:15 A.M. - Arrive at hospital and get into the labor and delivery room.
9:00 A.M. - Pass out on couch in labor and delivery because Chelsea is loving and caring and doesn't want her husband vomiting on her during delivery.
11:00 A.M. - Woken up by Chelsea asking for help. Her contractions were pretty heavy by now and she needed some help to get through the pain. Also, texting our doula and photographer that things were starting to happen and they should try to get there soon. Chelsea had told both of them that nothing would probably happen until noon.
11:20 A.M. - "I think I'm ready to push" - Chelsea
11:22 A.M. - I go get the doctor and nurses.
11:31 A.M. - One and a half hours after being induced and starting Pitocin, Gideon Oliver Bartel is born.
12:00 P.M. - Lay back down and go to sleep. Still feeling queasy.
2:00 P.M. - Moved down to maternity. Fall back asleep on couch there.
5:00 P.M. - Woken up because Gideon has to go down to the NICU.
6:00 P.M. - Back to sleep because I'm not allowed in the NICU.
I then sleep for most of the night. Hearing from Chelsea how things are going whenever she comes back up from the NICU. But I'm not allowed to go down there until the next day after I haven't vomited for 24 hours and they are told I never had a fever.
So... for most of this birth experience, I was asleep and sick. YAY! But, it was still good for the most part. Labor and Delivery was great, the rest of the days were rougher. But we made it through to the other side. And here's Evelyn meeting him for the first time.
